  Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

  Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be met by our guide and taken to your lodge in Marangu. Here the preparations of your equipment for the mountain trek will take place.

  Stage 1: Machame Gate (1800 m) to Machame Camp (3000 m)

  Ascent: 1200 m Distance: 9 km Hiking time: about 6 hours
  At 9am you will leave Arusha for Machame Gate where you will meet your porters, guides and cooks who will spend the next few days trekking with you to Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa. Your first destination for the day is Machame Camp. Each day porters and cooks will go ahead to set up camp in time for your arrival. On your first day, you’ll hike through the moss-covered trees of the Kilimanjaro Cloud Forest.

  Stage 2: Machame Camp (3000 m) to Shira Camp (3840 m)

  Ascent: 840 m Distance: 7 km Hiking time: 5-6 hours
  We start the day by walking further through the forest, the trees become smaller and make way for the famous high altitude plants of Kilimanjaro. After lunch, climb the Shira Plateau, formed when the lava flows of Kibo filled the Shira Crater. Continue to Shira Camp where you can relax for the rest of the day.

  Stage 3: Shira Camp (3840 m) to Barranco Camp (3950 m)

  Ascent: 690 m Distance: 10 km Hiking Time: 6-7 hours
  Although this day ends only 110 meters higher, by early afternoon you will have climbed 690 meters to an elevation of 4,530 meters before beginning your descent to Barranco Camp. Continue through the barren landscape before stopping for lunch. Shortly after lunch, you’ll reach the highest point of the day before descending to Barranco Camp.

  Stage 4: Barranco Camp (3950 m) to Barafu Camp (4600 m)

  Ascent: 650 m Distance: 8 km Hiking time: 3-4 hours
  Although the trail is a barren alpine desert with little vegetation, Barafu Camp offers breathtaking views of the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi as well as the Rebmann Glacier. Try to sleep as soon as you finish dinner, as you will wake up at midnight for your summit hike.

  Stage 5: Barafu Camp (4600 m) - Uhuru Peak (5895 m) - Mweka Camp (3100 m)

  Ascent: 1295 m Descent: 2795 m Distance: 19 km Hiking time: 11-12 hours
  At around midnight you will start the last ascent to the highest point in Africa. The altitude makes the hike long and strenuous. Finally we reach Uhuru Peak - the highest point of Kilimanjaro and the roof of Africa. After enjoying taking in the plains of Africa, we descend to Mweka Camp. Later, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-deserved sleep.

  Stage 6: Mweka Camp (3100 m) to Mweka Gate (1500 m)

  Descent: 1600 m Distance: 10 km Hiking time: about 4 hours
  After breakfast you will finish the hike with a descent to Mweka Gate. Your last leg will take you through the beautiful cloud forest of Kilimanjaro. The Tanzania Travelers vehicle will pick us up here and drive to the hotel in Arusha/Moshi or directly to the airport for the return flight home.
